Review

I am very disapointed with the parental guidance in this book. Yes, they are eighteen, (some of them) but they still need parents by what I have seen. They've been given too many things previously to know what's right to have, and what isn't. They go to parties with fake rapper dudes, naked ladies dancing on stage, and dance at bars where some people use that area as their strip club. That might just be what Beverly Hills is like, but I'm not familiar to that, and I don't think those places and things are apropriate for them to be associating themselves with. They are too young, and their minds are getting trashed. This is an unbelievable book because in real life, parents would be there telling thier kids not to do those things. and punishing then, if they do them again.

Setting of Blonde Ambition

As I get into this book, the author is beginning to annoy me with all her detail. Detail is good, but I like being able to make my own picture and infer what the setting is, or what it looks like, instead of having a forced image inside my head. This book takes place in Beverly Hills, California. Rich, blonde snobs and palm trees line the streets. All of them wearing dark sunglasses and driving convertables. This takes place in the present, where there is an internship office on the set of Hermosa Beach (hot new tv show) and the Palm Springs Desert. I am also very envious of Cammie's bathroom. It's extreme to the point where I don't even thing I would call it a bathroom anymore. There's a pale pink sucken Jacuzzi tub, a seperate stall shower with twelve jets at various levels, and pale pink fluffy rugs to dry your feet on. I'm not big on pink, but it still sounds luxurious.
I also got a perfect picture of the perfect boy's room.(Ben's) There's blue carpet covering the floor, and the twin sized bed is made of mahogony wood. One wall has a plasma screen tv. One wall is lined with slots of c.d.s. The last wall has a desk and studying area complete with PC, color printer, fax machines and answering machines. There's also a bookcase full of photos of Ben in plays and other activities when he was little.

BLONDE AMBITION

I just started reading Blonde Ambition this week, and it's not a book with quality text, more of a fluff book, that's really easy to read and you don't have to think about what's happening very much at all. But I'm enjoying having a break after reading the depression of "Give a Boy a Gun."
Like I said, I haven't read very much of this book, so I haven't really gotton to know much about the characters. But here's what I know. Anna is the intern and Ben's girlfriend. She snuck off to a hotel with him, but she says she wants the best for herself and her sister, Susan, who is off to rehab and hates her dad for breaking her and her boyfriend up. Anna had also previously had another relationship with Ben, but it ended one night on his boat, where they spent the night together, but before Anna could wake up, Ben had left her. Right now, they're on the boat again,"making new memories" and Anna just woke up, Ben was gone again, so Anna got really freaked out, but as soon as she got up to leave, Ben came down the stairs with breakfast.
Ben thinks he's in love for the first time with Anna and never wants to be away from her. But, he's a rule breaker, so i don't know how long this relationship is going to last for them. I also think that he loves Anna and other girls because of their physical apperence, and not their real character.
Cammie is the daughter of the producer of the show that Anna is interning at and is the powerful one of the story. She's a snob and thinks that everything revolves around her, and she has an evil stepmother, that she deserves. Anna is also high matinence just like Cammie but she's a better person at heart.

Myself as a reader

One of my earliest memories as a reader was when I was in a reading group, seperated by level, in our classes in elementary school. I would go hours at a time, sneaking in chapters during class, when I was supposed to be doing something else. Even when we had indoor recess on rainy days, you could always find me at my desk devouring a different book evey day. I also joined the summer reading program at the public library and really enjoyed being involved in many activities with other children my own age, who loved to read. Now as a reader, all I want to do on rainy days, like today, is stay home and read. Just sit at home and fall away into another world. I also really enjoy reading at the public library. There's an area upstairs where there are chairs looking out huge windows above downtown, and there are heaters by your feet. The perfect place to be on a snowy Saturday. Right now, I'm really hooked on the Twilight books. The vampire teenage romance that takes place in Forks, Oregon. The first adition to the series, Twilight, written by Stephanie Meyer, is coming out as a movie on November 21st, 2008. I can't wait to see it. My friends are all planning to go to the midnight showing. Even though I'll be really tired during classt the next day, it'll be worth it.
